Fernando E. Garrido Fernández

    Fernando E. Garrido is Tenured Scientist of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). He holds a PhD from the University of Córdoba in Agricultural Engineering, specialising in Economy, Sociology and Agrarian Policy. He was visiting researcher at the Rural Sociology Department at Wageningen University (Netherlands), at the South Jutland University Centre (Denmark) and the Institute for Political Science at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His doctoral thesis was awarded an honourable mention at the II Unicaja Foundation Prize for Economic Development and Agrarian Studies.

    He was coordinator of the Technical Unit of Applied Studies at IESA-CSIC between 2002 and 2009 and subsequently Vice-Director of IESA-CSIC between 2009 and 2017. He has been a lecturer on masters and doctorate programmes at the University of Cádiz, Pablo de Olavide University (Seville) and the University of Córdoba, and is – since 2014 – the head researcher of the Territory, Rurality, Agriculture, Environment and Sustainability (TRAMAS) Research Group at IESA. His research interests have always been related to social aspects of rural and regional development and the evaluation of public policy in connection with the management and conservation of the environment and natural resources; these areas of specialism are also the subject of the majority of his scientific publications and research activity.
