DEMOCRETS – Governance, collective action and political participation: challenges of contemporary democracy

Sebastian Rinken has a degree in Political Sciences from the Free University of Berlin (1990) and a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute (1996). Since joining the Institute for Advanced Social Studies in 2001, his research has mainly focused on international migration to Spain, with special emphasis on public opinion about immigration, its evolution and its underlying causes, as well as the prerequisites and perspectives for social integration of the immigrant population. He has devoted several books on this subject, as well as numerous journal articles and reports.One of his recent tasks was to lead a research project on the reasons why comparatively calm attitudes towards immigration and immigrants predominate in Spain (CSO2017-87364-R).
